NextHop Demonstrates "Best in Class" Voice over Wi-Fi

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California – July 25, 2007 NextHop Technologies® Inc., the leader in enterprise mobility and networking solutions, today announced results of InteropLabs voice over Wi-Fi test bench performed at Las Vegas InterOp, May 2007. The voice test bench presented live test beds of stressed conditions in a neutral multi-vendor, standards based arena. NextHop’s voice solution, Clarion™ Voice, available as part of its CompleteMobility™ Wi-Fi-based WLAN solution, was one of many vendors solutions tested. The test bench generated a continuous stream of 80 voice sessions across two Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) for hours at a time. Despite the stress, NextHop’s robust solution performed “Best in Class” consistently at toll quality levels.

Voice over Wi-Fi technically challenges the best wireless LAN (local area networks) systems. It requires campus-wide access, seamless roaming without dropping calls, fast and therefore un-noticeable transfer of sessions between network elements, transparent integration with the wired environment--all while operating at the high quality levels to which consumers are accustomed.

NextHop’s Clarion™ Voice has been architected, from the ground up, to meet these stringent requirements. The advent of the iPhone has brought renewed focus on dual-mode phones which support both cellular and Wi-Fi infrastructures.  With this, demand for voice over Wi-Fi capability is expected to surge.

“We were very pleased with the results of the InteropLabs voice test bench,” said PG Menon, vice president, NextHop Technologies.  “As expected, our scores were consistently best in class.”

Clarion ™ Voice feature benefits:

  • Campus-wide voice access and availability
  • Toll quality with simultaneous data connections
  • Undetectable sub 50-millisecond transfers across network elements
  • Wireless multimedia prioritization enabling priority voice assignment
  • Wireless to wired network, priority assignment carry forward ensuring end-to-end quality of service.
  • Automatic detection of voice clients for ease-of-use and automatic prioritization

NextHop’s CompleteMobility software along with Clarion Voice was announced at InterOp May 2007. It will be available third quarter of this year.
